GATORS FALL SHORT

The BGMR Gator Boys Basketball team will be stumbling into the playoffs after a young and talented Kittson Central Bearcat team smashed the Gators 68 to 48 in the regular season finale for both teams.
The Gators and Bearcats played even basketball during much of the first half as the Bearcats went into halftime with a 34-30 lead.  The Gators came out focused in the second half and took a 3 point lead early.  Kittson Central however regrouped and went on a 15-0 run that would put the game out of reach.  The Gators were unable to have an offensive answer for the Bearcats 1-3-1 zone defense and defensively let the Bearcats get too many open shots in the second half.
Nick Rodriguez led the Gators in scoring with 12 points.  Aaron Dostal also had a solid night with 11 points and 11 rebounds.  On the night the Gators shot 31% and only managed to put up 54 shots for the game.
The Gators finished the regular season at 10-16.  They have lost several close games and go into the tournament on a 5 game losing streak.  For most teams this might seem like an ominous sign but the BGMR Gator s realize that if they put a full game together they will be a tough outcome tournament time.  The Gators will open tournament play on Monday versus the Red Lake County Rebels.  Game time is 7:00 and will be at the Swamp.  This is a repeat of last years opening round playoff game, yet the Gators are hoping for different results as the Rebels were able to sneak out a victory.  It will be a tough game and the Gators will need to play much better than they have been of late.  It is however a new season and one in which the Gator boys and Gator Nation have been preparing for.
